Our tournament has been to Bristol Harbour every year since
1990. The resort which is owned by group headed by Doug
Weins, offers 18 holes of championship golf, a private beach
and marina, tennis courts and other recreational facilities.
Studio to 4 bedroom lakeside condominiums and golfside
townhomes & patio homes, all fully furnished, can be
rented. Restaurant and bar facilities are on the property.
Once you arrive you never have to leave, and why would you
want to.
This resort
is located on the west shore of Canandaigua Lake about 90
minutes east of Buffalo. It is in the Finger Lakes area of
New York and is right smack in the middle of the second
largest wine producing area of the United States. Only the
Napa Valley produces more.
Although
this resort is the perfect setting for our tournament, I
believe it is the people that work there that keeps us
coming back.
Let us not
forget that skiing is very big at Bristol, with Bristol
Mountain only a few minutes away. This is a year round
facility so if downhill or cross country skiing is what
you're looking for, this is the place to be.

Things
to know: Dress code, (no
jeans or tee shirts) spikeless shoes only, course designer
is Robert Trent Jones Sr. - 1972. Golf carts have tops and
windshields. Three bag accessories available. Rated 4-Star
in Golf Digest Places to Play.
Overview: Located in the Bristol hills 45
minutes south east of Rochester New York. Front nine is a
par 37 with three par 5's and the back nine, which tends to
be more of a challenge is a par 35 with one par 5. The
scenery is breathtaking no matter where you are and the
staff helps set the facility apart from others in the area.
There are 70+ bunkers throughout the course and many of the
greenside bunkers have been reconstructed with the remainder
to be done in the 2003 season. The greens are undulating and
quite tricky. The local knowledge will indicated that almost
all greens break toward the south end of the lake. A true
test of golf from the back tees. Driver is not always the
best choice of club off the tee, especially on the back
side.
Three
toughest holes (white tees)
•
No. 11, par-3, 173 yards: You have to
carry a bunker in front to a shallow green that is tough to
hold.
•
No. 14, par-4, 410 yards: An iron off the tee to a landing
area surrounded by a bunker on the left, trees all around.
The second shot is an elevation drop of about 100 feet and
is tough to judge.
•
No. 17, par-4, 352 yards: A downhill tee shot with trees all
around, and the approach is uphill to a shallow green.
Three
easiest holes
•
No. 4, par-5, 474 yards: Reachable in
two, but you do have to carry water on the approach to the
green.
•
No. 8, par-3, 151 yards: A straight, easy shot with only a
bunker on the right to create trouble.
•
No. 10, par-5, 463 yards: Another short hole, reachable in
two, green is guarded by bunkers but green is pretty flat. |
